The best ways to wear Hunters

Nothing conjures up a better image of the revived Hunter wellies than Kate Moss stalking around Glastonbury in a pair of Originals.

Teaming them with a gold mini-dress back in 2005, Moss is partly credited with bringing the company back from the brink of bankruptcy and turning Hunters into a global phenomenon.

Today these classic and versatile wellies have become a wardrobe staple not just for festival goers but for Mums on a rainy school run and their stylish kids. And with the UK soaked with rain nearly 30% of the year on average, they are now spotted as easily on the high street as a country walk; all a far cry from the brand’s beginnings in 1856 making rubber work boots.

The best way to wear them...

With jeans

Hunters with jeans can be worn one way only: skinny jeans tucked in – simple.  Please don’t go for any other cut of jean- it just does not work. We love the Original Tall in black but the Original Tall Gloss in red or yellow are perfect for AW17.

With skirts

Hunters come into their own in spring and autumn, great at keeping you dry but not as stuffy as your winter snow boots. They work well with a number of skirt styles especially short A-line skirts with bare legs if you are brave enough (the Hunters Original boot socks will help) or your black opaques.  Keep the tights simple and fabrics such as corduroy, denim and suede for the skirt provided a textured contrast. Don’t go leather – it’s too much.

With shorts

The ultimate street style festival outfit: denim cuts off and a pair of Hunters.  Keep the shorts pretty short and balance out the look with more feminine pieces for the top; floral prints work well and a cross-body bag – embroidered would be great.  Coat-wise – a wax jacket, khaki parka or even a camouflage print complete the look.

With dresses

Probably not the first outfit combination that comes to mind but Hunters with dresses works – you just need to make sure you get the dress right.  Floral wrap or tea dresses pair well but make sure the dress ends above the knee and there is a good amount of space at the top of the welly.  For those midi-skirt fans, the short or Chelsea boots are great paired with a floaty midi –a polka dot pattern pairs well with black or a summer floral with a khaki pair.
